When you have been taught a certain way for so long, it becomes a part of your daily being. In my case, I grew up in a religion that talked about Jesus but did not introduce him as my Lord and savior. Imagine going through life and not knowing this while trying to balance everything else that has come your way.

"I'm 39 years old and I'm not ashamed to say that I started to learn about Jesus at the age of 38"

Let me give you a little background on how my life consists of just existing and not living!

  • Having control was my biggest downfall when I thought I was only protecting myself from the people in this life.

  • Yelling became my friend when I thought no one was listening to me.

  • Trying to fill voids of love, loneliness, and attention.

  • Living paycheck to paycheck.

  • Allowing others to say and do what they want mostly.

  • Drinking my life away when times got hard.

  • Not feeling like I was enough.

  • I had no clue of what identity I was living in.

"As I break this down a little more, pay attention to how my words do a shift"

  1. Me having control looked like: leaning on my own understanding when it came to paying bills, relationships, parenthood, and dealing with my feelings/emotions. Little did I know I had access to something much greater than my circumstances. "Jesus"

  2. Why did I yell a lot? Because growing up, what I had to say never mattered, and yelling was the only way I could get anyone's attention. What I didn't know was that it's much more calming when I have access to "Jesus"!

  3. My filling voids was a huge downfall because by filling them, I was still feeling empty, and the more and more I tried, I was starving for something and didn't know what that looked like. I didn't know that I had daily bread right in front of me "Jesus".

  4. I was working jobs just to get by and feed my kids, but also quitting them because of a lack of knowledge, accountability, and stability. I didn't know that I had unlimited access to all funds through "Jesus".

  5. People had a lot of say-so in my life because I allowed them to, in order for me to feel wanted and noticed. That was also a big downfall! Little did I know that "Jesus" knows me and notices me!

  6. Drinking 7 days a week was the light of my life and made me numb to everything, which was what I wanted out of alcohol. What I didn't know was that "Jesus" is the light and will always be the light in my life.

  7. I never felt like I was enough because of the religion I came into this world knowing. It never brought peace, only fear. Through "Jesus", he didn't make it so that I would fear anything or anyone.

  8. I had no clue who I was walking this life with; all I knew was I didn't want to do life like this alone. Through "Jesus", I'm never alone, I'm not just existing, and my identity always lay within him.

With intentional desire, curiosity, knowledge, studying, training, and healthy isolation, I now know and continue to learn that I am a daughter of a king, and I am fearfully and wonderfully made. I have authority over the enemy and all his strategies through and with "Christ Jesus".

The beauty in all of this is access to the armor, the sword, the word, the light, the bread, the way, the truth, and the life "Jesus"!
